After a LONG day at the airport, yup we got lucky again and ended up with a 3 hour delay this time around. Unbelievable really! Apparently there were thunderstorms and BWI wasn’t allowing planes to land so our plane ended up circling the airport so much that they had to fly to Richmond to refuel. It was beyond frustrating but the only good thing that came out of it was that we were able to get on the plane in the first group of passengers because I told the guy at the gate that Gary just went through chemo and its not the wisest to have him boarding with a HUGE group of people at the same time.
We ended up arriving around 9pm. Our wonderful friend, Kris, was waiting outside the Gate for us. It’s nice to know that you have a friend that not only will come pick you up, but will come inside, AND more importantly will come at whatever time you needed since we were supposed to land 3 hours earlier. Thank you Kris we sooooooooo appreciate it!
It’s been a rough few nights back. But it’s all short lived, we will be heading back to the NIH soon enough. We are enjoying every moment at home though, as best as we can.
So far no fevers for Gary!
Yesterday afternoon our wonderful friend Leanna picked us up from our house and drove us to the airport. When we got there our flight was showing to be delayed by an hour. Just so you all know we left the house at 1:30 for our 3:30 flight. Got to the airport around 2 since Air Tran wants you there 90 minutes before. So back to the story, that 1 hour delay turned into a 3.5 hour delay! It felt like forever though.
Right before 4 they came over the loudspeaker to tell us that the flight should take off at 6:59. So yeah we were all so freaking happy about that. Thankfully they announced this when they did because just last week Gary’s social worker at NIH had told me that god forbid our flight was to be delayed (since their last shuttle leaves BWI at 7:30) I need to call her as soon as I knew. So I immediately called her while they were still making their announcement. Thankfully she was still there. She told me that we had 2 options. Either pick up our own taxi when we arrive and pay to get to Bethesda or they can authorize a taxi to pick us up and they’d foot the bill, we’d just need to call Admissions when we landed. So I opted for that option since I knew it would cost a pretty penny to get to Bethesda from BWI.
Our plane managed to leave around 7 as they predicted and we arrived at BWI around 9:30. As soon as we deplaned I called up Admissions and gave them my cell phone number to give to the taxi company. Gary and I proceeded to walk out of the terminal to wait. We didn’t have to wait that long. They actually had picked up another lady that was headed to NIH that also had a delayed flight so we had some company.
We managed to get to the hotel around 11. And of course we needed to hit the local CVS for our fabulous dinner of cereal and pringles. Yummmmm-o! Kidding of course! We also needed to pick up some toiletry items that we weren’t able to fit into our tiny quart sized bags too so we had another reason to go to CVS.
So yeah quite the journey to get up here!
